Warr Guitar

The Warr Guitar is a relative of the Stick in that it is designed to be used by tapping the strings. However, the body style and string layout is different. Mark Warr and Emmett Chapman (designer of the Stick) got into some legal disputes a few years back, but not over the instruments themselves ... rather, it was about business and marketing tactics. The rumors that it was about the "tap" aspects of the instruments is untrue, and the dispute was settled years ago. (Thanks to Jim Reilly for this info).

Warr Guitars come in 8, 12 and 14-string varieties (14-string Phalanx series shown). There is no "standard" tuning (or rather, there are a number of "standard tunings", though Warr encourages you to try new tunings for yourself). Needless to say, the experimental nature of this instrument makes it a natural for prog musicians.

Probably the most famous Warr Guitar player today is Trey Gunn, sometime guitarist for King Crimson, who has both a Warr Guitar model and a tuning named for him. Less well-known, but every bit as good, are Mark Cook (99 Names of God, The Minefield) and Adam Levin (Dark Aether Project).

KING CRIMSON

อาจกล่าวได้ว่า King Crimson เป็นวง Rock ที่เป็นผู้บุกเบิก และพัฒนาแนวดนตรี Progressive Rock ให้เจริญก้าวหน้าไปถึงขนาดกู่ไม่กลับ วง Progressive Rock หลายวง ต่างยอมรับว่า พวกตนได้รับอิทธิพลทางดนตรีมาจาก King Crimson ซึ่งผลิตผลจากความอัจฉริยะทางดนตรีของ Robert Fripp ซึ่งเป็นตัวยืนหลักของวงมาตลอด รวมทั้งสมาชิกของวงซึ่งเฝ้าเวียนเปลี่ยนหน้าเข้าออกกัน เพื่อสร้างสรรค์ดนตรี Rock อันทรงคุณค่าแก่โลกดนตรี

King Crimson มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงสมาชิกบ่อย พอๆกับการประกาศยุบวงโดยแนวดนตรีไม่ได้เปลี่ยนแปลงตามสมาชิกที่เข้าออกอย่างเช่นวง Rock หลายๆวง แต่ขึ้นอยู่กับผู้แต่งเนื้อร้องให้วง ซึ่ง Robert Fripp เป็นผู้เลือกสรรให้ความไว้วางใจในการรับหน้าที่ประพันธ์เนื้อร้องให้วง ในที่นี้จึงขอแบ่ง King Crimson ออกเป็น 3 ยุคสมัย โดยยึดถือผู้ประพันธ์เนื้อร้องให้วงเป็นหลัก ซึ่งแนวดนตรีในใน 3 ยุคนี้ มีความแตกต่างกันอย่างเห็นได้ชัด

 


ยุคที่ 1

ผู้ประพันธ์เนื้อร้องคือ Peter Sinfield ซึ่งถือเป็นสมาชิกของวงมีหน้าที่หลักคือ ประพันธ์เนื้อร้องโดยไม่มีส่วนเล่นดนตรีหรือร้องใน LP ชุดใดๆ (เหมือน Pete Brown ของคณะ Cream) แต่ Sinfield มีบทบาทอื่นๆเวลาแสดงสดคือ เป็นคนควบคุมแสงและช่วยเล่นซินเธอไซเซอร์ VCS-3 เสริมนิดหน่อย เนื้อร้องที่แต่งโดย Sinfield จะฟังดูเหมือนบทกวีที่ฟังแล้วยากที่จะเข้าใจ แต่เต็มไปด้วยความคิดสร้างสรรค์ และการมองความเป็นไปของโลกในแง่มุมที่สุดแปลก เพลงในยุคนี้ทำออกมาค่อนข้างจะมีเนื้อหาต่อเนื่องกันทั้งแผ่นแบบ Concept LP เครื่องดนตรีที่ปรากฏในยุคที่ 1 นี้นอกจากเครื่องดนตรีประจำวง Rock ทั่วไปแล้วก็มี Flute และ Sax เข้ามาช่วยให้หลายเพลงฟังดูชวนหลงใหลมากขึ้น LP ในยุคนี้มี 5 ชุดคือ

1. In The Court Of Crimson King (1969)

สมาชิกรุ่นก่อตั้งส่วนหน่งแตกกระจายมาจาก Giles, Giles & Fripp ซึ่งออก LP มาชุดเดียวก็ไปไม่รอด Robert Fripp เป้นมือกีตาร์ผู้ไม่ชอบยืนเล่นกีตาร์ แต่จะมีม้าสูงไว้นั่งเล่นบนเวที คนอื่นๆได้แก่ Greg Lake, Ian McDonald, Mike Giles และ Sinfield

LP ชุดนี้มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับการต่อสู้อันไม่สิ้นสุดของมนุษย์ต่อความสับวนวุ่นวายที่เกิดจากสภาวะแวดล้อม LP ชุดนี้ถือกันว่าเป็น LP ที่ดีที่สุดของวงนี้ในยุคแรก ทั้งด้านดนตรีและเนื้อหาของเพลง สำหรับดนตรีนั้นฟังดูราวกับว่ามีวงออเคสตรามาเล่นสนับสนุน แต่ที่จริงทุกอย่างเป็นฝีมือการเรียบเรียงเสียงประสานของพวกเขาเองทั้งสิ้น และในเพลง 21st Century Schizoid Man เป็นครั้งแรกและครั้งเดียวที่จะได้ยิน Fripp ลีดกีตาร์หนักๆแบบวง Hard Rock เสียงร้องในเพลงนี้เป็นการร้องผ่านซินธ์ VCS-3 ซึ่งทำให้เสียงแหบแปลกๆ และฟังดูห่างไกล

หลังจากความสำเร็จของ LP ชุดนี้ McDonald และ Giles ก็ลาออกไป แต่ก็ยังมาช่วยใน LP ชุดที่ 2 กันอยู่โดยมี Gordon Haskell เข้ามาร้องนำในขณะที่ Lake เริ่มคิดตีจากไปตั้งวง ELP นอกจากนี้ยังมี Mel Collins เข้ามาเล่นเครื่องเป่าและ Pete Giles เล่นเบส

2. In The Wake Of Poseidon (1970)

พยายามเดินรอยตามชุดแรกแต่ทำไม่ได้ถึงครึ่ง แม้จะมีเพลงเพราะๆ อย่าง Cadence And Cascade และซิงเกิ้ลที่มีเนื้อหาประหลาดอย่าง Cat Food ดนตรีโดยรวมเรื่อยๆเอื่อยๆ หลังจากชุดนี้ Lake ก็ไปอยู่กับ ELP  Fripp เสนอตัวเองไปเป็นมือกีตาร์ให้วงใหม่ของ Lake แต่ถูกปฏิเสธ ในขณะที่ Fripp ปฏิเสธข้อเสนอของ Yes ที่กำลังมองหามือกีตาร์ฝีมือเข้าขั้นมาแทนที่ Pete Banks

Fripp กลับมารวบรวมวงของตนใหม่ โดยแก้ตัวเรื่องลาออกของสมาชิกเป็นว่าเล่นว่าจะทำให้วงไม่ต้องยึดมั่นอยู่ในสมาชิกคนใดคนหนึ่งว่า ถ้าขาดคนนั้นแล้วจะทำให้วงล่มสลาย หากแต่เป็นความยืดหยุ่นที่จะสร้างผลงานต่อไปหรือแม้แต่ขยายงานให้ใหญ่โต ถ้าจะให้ตีความง่ายๆ King Crimson ก็คือ Fripp นั่นเอง

3. Lizard (1970)

ผู้มาเล่นกลองในชุดนี้คือ Andy McCullough พร้อมทั้งนักดนตรีเสริมมากมาย รวมทั้ง Jon Anderson  ซึ่งมาฝากชื่อไว้ในเพลง Prince Rupert Awakes โดยที่เหลือ Haskell เป็นผู้ร้องนำแถมเล่นเบสด้วย ผู้ที่ได้ฟัง Jon Anderson ร้องในแผ่นนี้มักคิดว่า Fripp น่าจะให้ Jon ร้องเสียทุกเพลงเลยจะดีกว่า

ในบรรดาผลงานการประพันธ์เนื้อร้องของ Sinfield ทั้งหมด ผู้เขียนคิดว่าใน LP ชุดนี้น่าสนใจมากที่สุด เนื้อร้องในชุดนี้เต็มไปด้วยศัพท์แปลกๆ การร้องแบบซับซ้อนพิสดาร และการเล่นสัมผัสคำที่สุดที่จะบรรยาย เพลง Indoor Games หรือกีฬาในร่มเป็นเรื่องของการใช้เวลาว่างให้ผ่านไปของคนในราชสำนัก เพลง Happy Family ถ้าจะให้เดาก็น่าจะเป็นเรื่องของการแตกแยกของ The Beatles ซึ่ง Sinfield เปลี่ยนชื่อบุคคลทั้ง 4 ใหม่เป็น Rufus (Ringo) จมูกโด่ง, Silas (Paul) หัดไว้เครา, Jonah (John) มีเมีย และ Judas (George) เสพย์ยา ซึ่งบุคคลทั้ง 4 ในเพลงนี้ประกาศว่าจะไปตามทางของตน ตอนท้ายเพลงของเขาบรรยายสภาพการแตกแยกของ The Beatles ไว้ได้ใกล้เคียงความเป็นจริงมากคือ Happy Family, one hand clap, four went on but none came back (คงไม่ต้องแปลนะครับ)

ใน 2 เพลงที่กล่าวถึงนี้ ถ้าตัดสียงร้องออกหมดจะพบว่า ดนตรีออกไปทาง Jazz อย่างเห็นได้ชัด ซึ่งในยุคนั้นเรียกว่า Cosmic Jazz ซึ่งดนตรีใน 2 เพลงนี้เด่นเอามากๆ ราวกับพยายามที่จะข่มเนื้อร้องที่โดดเด่นสุดกู่เช่นกัน เพลงหวานประจำ LP ชุดนี้คือ Lady Of The Dancing Water

ใครที่อยากสัมผัสกับดนตรี Rock ที่ท้าทาย ก็ไม่ควรพลาดที่จะลองสัมผัสกับ LP นี้ แล้วจะได้พบกับความเป็นอัจฉริยะของ Fripp และ Sinfield

4. Islands (1971)

Boz Burrell และ Ian Wallace เข้ามาแทนที่ Haskell และ McCullough ตามลำดับ LP ชุดนี้เป็นชุดที่ฟังและรับได้ยากที่สุดสำหรับวงนี้ บางเพลงตลบอบอวลไปด้วยคาวโลกีย์ซึ่งมาจากฝีมือการประพันธ์เนื้อร้องอันเหลือรับประทานของ Sinfield เพลง ladies Of The Road เป็นเพลงที่กล่าวถึงผู้หญิงหากินได้เจ็บแสบดี

อย่างไรก็ดี เพลงต่างๆในชุดนี้มีแต่ความเย็นชา และดูเหมือนจะสร้างความห่างเหินระหว่างนักดนตรีและคนฟัง เปรียบเสมือน King Crimson เป็นเกาะสวรรค์เล็กๆ กลางมหาสมุทรอันกว้างใหญ่ไพศาลซึ่งยากที่คนจะเข้าถึง ดังเพลง Title Track

ถ้าใครอยากรู้จัก King Crimson ไม่ควรเริ่มต้นจากชุดนี้เด็ดขาด เพราะจะทำให้เกลียดวงนี้ไปเลย LP ชุดนี้เหมาะกับผู้ที่ติดตาม LP 3 ชุดแรกของพวกเขามาเท่านั้นหลังจาก Sinfield ได้สนองตัณหาของตนด้วยเนื้อร้องแบบสุดกู่ใน LP นี้ Fripp ก็ไล่เขาออกด้วยเกรงว่า Sinfield กำลังจะมามีอิทธิพลเหนือวงของเขา เป็นการสิ้นสุดบทบาทในวงของ Sinfield ผู้ซึ่งเริ่มต้นโดยการสมัครเข้ามาเป็นช่างควบคุมไฟของวงจนก้าวขึ้นสู่ตำแหน่งที่เกือบเทียบเท่าหัวหน้าวง

5. Earthbound (1972)

LP ชุดนี้ออกมาขัดตาทัพหลังจาก King Crimson แตกแยกกันไปพร้อมการไล่ Sinfield ออก อาจถือได้ว่า LP ชุดนี้เป็นบันทึกการแสดงสดที่ระบบเสียงแย่ที่สุดในโลกก็ว่าได้ แม้แต่บริษัท Atlantic ก็ของดนำ LP ชุดนี้ วางจำหน่ายในอเมริกาด้วยเหตุผลที่ว่า เป็นการบันทึกเสียงที่คุณภาพแย่มาก (King Crimson อยู่ในสังกัด E.G. โดยมี Atlantic เป็นผู้จัดจำหน่ายในอเมริกา)

LP ชุดนี้เปิดฉากด้วยการนำเพลง 21st Century Schizoid Man มาทำลายอย่างย่อยยับด้วยการเปลี่ยนจาก Rock เป็น Jazz เสียงเป่า Sax อย่างไม่ยั้งของ Mel Collins ได้ทำให้เพลงนี้กลายเป็น Jazz อย่างสมบูรณ์ เพลง Peoria ซึ่งไม่เคยบันทึกเสียงมาก่อนก็ออกไปทาง Funky อย่างเห็นได้ชัด เพลงที่เหลือก็เป็นการแจมกันแบบ Jazz เหมือนที่เล่นกันตาม Cocktail Lounge ของฝรั่ง

ยุคที่ 2

มี Richard Palmer-James ซึ่งไม่ถือเป็นสมาชิกของวงป็นคนแต่งเนื้อร้อง เนื้อร้องยังเป็น Progressive ที่ยากจะเข้าใจ แต่ดนตรีในยุคนี้ออกไปทาง Rock หนักๆ โดยมีเสียง Violin เข้ามาผ่อนคลาย เนื้อหาของเพลงเป็นการมองสังคมและชนชั้นในแง่มุมต่างๆ สมาชิกของวงที่ Fripp รวบรวมขึ้นใหม่ในครั้งนี้ค่อนข้างอยู่ตัวโดยมี David Cross เล่นไวโอลิน และคีย์บอร์ด John Wetton เบสและร้องนำ Bill Bruford กลองและเครื่องเคาะจังหวะ ในยุคนี้มี LP ออกมา 4 ชุดคือ

6. Larks' Tongues In Aspic (1973)

น่าจะเป็น LP ที่ยอดเยี่ยมที่สุดในยุคที่ 2 ของวง เพลงที่เด่นที่สุดคือ Easy Money ซึ่ง Wetton ร้องใส่อารมณ์เต็มที่ พอๆ กับการกระตุกสายเบสแบบสุดแรงเกิด พร้อมเสียงเครื่องเคาะจังหวะอันแพรวพราวจาก Jamie Muir ซึ่งเข้ามาร่วมงานเฉพาะใน LP นี้เท่านั้น ใน LP นี้มีเพลงบรรเลง Larks' Tongues In Aspic Two ซึ่งแต่งโดย Fripp คนเดียวและได้กลายเป็นเพลงที่ขาดไม่ได้สำหรับการออกแสดงสดทุกครั้ง แม้แต่ในยุคที่ 3

7. Starless And Bible Black (1974)

ชุดนี้เหมือนชุดที่ 2 ของวงที่พยายามเดินตามรอยแผ่นก่อน ซึ่งก็ทำไม่ได้ดีอีกตามเคย แม้หลายเพลงจะฟังดูคิอนข้างหนวกหูเอามากๆ แต่ก็มีเพลงเพราะๆ อยู่ 2 เพลงคือ The Night Watch และเพลงบรรเลง Trio

ข้อสังเกตสำหรับในยุคนี้ จะมีเพลงบรรเลงในแต่ละแผ่นมากกว่าเพลงร้อง ราวกับว่า Fripp กลัวที่ Palmer-James จะมามีอิทธิพลเหนือเขา ดังเช่นที่เป็นไปในสมัยของ Sinfield ส่วนตัว Fripp เองนั้น เขาแต่งเนื้อร้องไม่เป็นเอาเลย ดังจะเห็นได้ชัดในอัลบั้มเดี่ยวของเขาทุกชุด

8. Red (1974)

ใครที่ชอบเพลงมันๆ หนักๆ แบบ Hard Rock ต้องชอบชุดนี้เพราะเสียงเบสและกลองเล่นหนักมาก ในขณะที่เสียงลีดกีตาร์มีการลีดหวานๆ สอดแทรกสลับกันไป เพลงที่สมบูรณ์มากๆ ในชุดนี้คือ One More Red Nightmare และ Starless ซึ่งยากที่จะหาเพลง Rock ใดๆ มาเทียบเท่า และ Fripp ก้ประกาศยุบวงอีกครั้ง

บันทึกการแสดงสดจากปี 1974 มีเพลง 21st Century Schizoid Man จาก LP แรกซึ่ง Wetton ร้องได้โหดกว่า Lake มาก ในขณะที่โทนเสียงของทั้ง 2 คล้ายคลึงกันมาก อันนี้อาจเป็นสาเหตุที่ Lake ถูกดึงไปแทน Wetton ชั่วคราวตอน Wetton ลาออกจาก Asia นอกนั้นเป็นเพลงในยุคที่ 2 ซึ่งเล่นได้ดีมากแต่ยังไม่ถึงที่สุด LP ชุดนี้มีเพลงที่ไม่เคยบันทึกเสียงมาก่อนคือ Asbury Park

10. The Young Person's Guide To King Crimson (1976)

LP คู่รวมเพลงเอกของวงรวบรวมโดย Fripp จาก LP 6 ชุด ทั้งนี้ไม่มีเพลงจากชุด Lizard มารวมไว้โดยไม่ปรากฏเหตุผล และมีพิเศษอยู่เพลงหนึ่งคือ I Talk To The Wind เพลงหวานๆจาก LP แรก ซึ่งใน LP นี้นักร้องสาว Judy Dyble ซึ่งเคยร่วมงานกับเขาตอนเป็น Giles, Giles & Fripp เป็นผู้ร้องเนื่องจากเพลงนี้เดิมเป็นของ Giles, Giles & Fripp แต่ไม่ทันจะบันทึกเป็นอัลบั้ม ก็แตกกันซะก่อน

ยุคที่ 3

Adrian Belew เป็นคนแต่งเนื้อร้อง เล่นกีตาร์ และร้องนำ เนื้อร้องหลายเพลงอยู่นอกเหนือความเข้าใจของผู้ฟัง ส่วนดนตรีเป็น Rock ผสม African Beat

Belew มีสไตล์การแต่งเนื้อร้องอยู่ 2 แนวที่แยกได้ชัดคือ ถ้าเป็นเพลงเกี่ยวกับความรักแล้ว เขาจะแต่งออกมาง่ายๆ แต่ถ้าเป็นเพลงเกี่ยวกับเรื่องอื่น จะฟังดูเหมือนการรำพึงรำพันของคนบ้าโรคจิตที่พูดพล่ามด้วยคำแปลกๆ บางทีเขาก็ร้องติดกันยาวเหยียดโดยไม่มีการเว้นช่วงหายใจเลย ส่วนฝีมือกีตาร์ของ Belew นั้นอยู่ในขั้นที่เรียกว่าสุดยอดในวงการ โดยเฉพาะการทำเสียงแปลกๆ จากกีตาร์ เช่นเสียงช้างร้อง ฯลฯ จุดด้อยของ Belew คือ เขาไม่ถนัดด้านแต่งดนตรีเอง สังเกตได้จาก LP เดี่ยวของเขา ที่ทำออกมาจะมีหลายทิศทาง ทำให้ไม่สามารถแสดงความเด่นเฉพาะตัวในการแต่งเนื้อร้องและการเล่นกีตาร์ออกมาได้มากนัก

หลังจากทิ้งช่วงไป 6 ปี เพื่อการแสวงหาวัตถุดิบใหม่ๆ รวมทั้งการฝึกปรือการเล่น Frippertronics ซึ่งเขาคิดขึ้นเอง Fripp ก็กลับมารวบรวมวงขึ้นใหม่โดยมี Bill Bruford ที่เหลือรอดมาจากยุคที่ 2 ส่วนมือเบสหัวล้านนามว่า Tony Levin ก็เป็นนักดนตรีรับจ้าง ซึ่งต้องแบ่งเวลาระหว่างการเป็นนักดนตรีรับจ้างกับการออกแสดงกับ King Crimson

11. Discipline (1981)

เพลงแรกของ LP ชุดนี้เป็นการเปิดตัวแนะนำ Adrian Belew ต่อแฟนเพลง  คือเพลง Elephant Talk เป็นการโชว์ความสามารถทุกด้านของ Belew ในการแต่งเพลง เล่นกีตาร์ และร้องนำ การแต่งเนื้อร้องแบบแหวกแนวของเขามีการเล่นคำอย่างสนุกสนาน และการขุดค้นหาศัพท์แปลกๆ มาใช้ รวมทั้งการเล่นกีตาร์เสียงแปลกๆ โดยเฉพาะการทำเสียงช้างร้องในเพลงนี้ทำให้แฟนเพลงตระหนักว่า Fripp เลือกคนไม่ผิด LP ชุดนี้ยังมีเพลงหวานๆ อย่าง Matte Kudasai และเพลงที่ร้องเป็นภาษาประหลาดอย่าง Thela Hun Ginjeet

12. Beat (1982)

ด้วยสมาชิกเดิม และแนวดนตรีแบบเดิม พวกเขาทำ LP ชุดนี้ได้ดีเทียบเท่าชุดก่อน ในเพลง Neurotica ซึ่งเกี่ยวกับ นครที่เต็มไปด้วยสัตว์ป่า Belew แสดงความสามารถในการรวบรวมชื่อสัตว์แปลกๆกว่า 20 ตัว และการร้องติดกันเป็นพรืดโดยไม่หายใจ และเพลง Sartori in Tangier ก็เป็นเพลงบรรเลงที่เล่นได้มันมาก โดยเฉพาะการเดินเบสอันแพรวพราวของ Levin

13. Three of a  Perfect Pair (1984)

LP ที่ดีที่สุด และเป็นชุดสุดท้ายของ King Crimson ยุคที่ 3 จากชุดนี้มีการตัดเพลง Sleepless ซึ่งมีจังหวะชวนเต้นรำออกเป็น  Single เพลงนี้ยังมีการนำไป Remix ใหม่เป็นแผ่น 12 นิ้สำหรับดิสโก้เธค ซึ่ง Levin เล่นเบสได้มันและโดดเด่นมาก และเพลงที่มีเนื้อร้องโดดเด่นคือการรำพึงรำพันของรถเก่าๆในสุสานรถ ในเพลง Dig Me ขอให้ขุดมันขึ้นไปใช้ใหม่ แทนที่จะฝังมันไว้ ส่วนเพลง Title Track ก้เป็นเพลงที่ Belew แต่งเนื้อร้องได้กวนประสาทและยากที่จะเข้าใจ

นับเป็นการตัดสินใจที่ถูกต้องที่ Fripp ประกาศยุบวง King Crimson หลังจากการออกทัวร์เพื่อสนับสนุนอัลบั้มนี้สิ้นสุดลง นับเป็นการยุบวงหลังจากที่พวกเขาได้ผลิตผลงานที่ดีที่สุดออกมา โดยไม่มีปัญหาเรื่องสมาชิกในวง ซึ่งเป็นเรื่องที่น่าเสียดายสำหรับแฟนเพลงวงนี้อยู่บ้าง เพราะไม่รู้ว่าจะต้องรอไปอีกนานแค่ไหนกว่า Fripp จะกลับมารวบรวมวงขึ้นอีก เพื่อเปิดแนวทางใหม่ๆแก่วงการดนตรี Rock

14. The Compact (1986)

LP คู่รวมเพลงเอกจากชุดแรก Red และ 3 ชุดหลัง แฟนเพลงวงนี้ผิดหวังมากที่ไม่เป็น LP แสดงสด อย่างไรก็ดี ก็มีวีดีโอบันทึกการแสดงสดของวงนี้ออกมา 2 ชุดคือ The Noise (1982) และ Three of a  Perfect Pair – Live In Japan (1984) ซึ่งยังไม่เคยเห็นมีให้เช่าดูในเมืองไทย

Fripp คงเห็นว่า ด้วยสมาชิกปัจจุบันขณะนั้น พวกเขาได้บรรลุถึงจุดสุดยอดตามเจตนารมณ์ที่ Fripp มีอยู่ตอนรวบรวมสมาชิกชุดนี้ข้น นั่นคือ ผลงานชั้นยอดจากนักดนตรีชั้นยอด (สมาชิกทั้ง 4 เป็นเซียนเหยียบเมฆในวงการกันทั้งนั้น) จึงไม่มีเหตุผลใดที่จะต้องทำผลงานร่วมกันต่อไปอีก การกลับมาใหม่ของ King Crimson วงใหม่ที่มี Fripp เป็นแกนหลักของวง พร้อมกับนักดนตรีที่ไม่ใช่ชุดนี้ ซึ่งจะกลับมาสร้างสรรค์ และเปิดประตูไปสู่ดนตรีแนวใหม่ที่ Fripp จะเป็นผู้วางรากฐานให้กับวงการดนตรี Rock ต่อไป สิ่งที่เป็นปัญหาอยู่ขณะนี้คือ … จะมีวันนั้นหรือไม่

โอวร่ายยาวได้ละเอียดละออดีแท้ครับ วงนี้ฟังจนเลิกฟังจนกลับมาฟังใหม่ หลังๆผมชอบชุด power to believe ครับ ใช้ได้เลย ช่วงที่เลิกฟังไปคือ ชุด vrooooooooom อะไรช่วงนั้นนะสะกดไม่ถูกครับ ชุด Thrak มั้งครับ  ก้ช่วงนั้นเล่นมีนักดนตรีสองชุด สมาชิกเพียบยังกะวงเพื่อนแนะ ก็มีเบื่อๆพร็อกผสมอยู่ด้วยนิดหน่อย
  แต่นับถือตาพริบแกอย่าง แกไม่เคยหมดไฟเลยนะ มีงานมาได้ตลอดสี่สิบปีได้แล้วเนี่ย

มีใครทราบบ้างครับว่าทำไม Ian McDonald อยู่กับ King Crimson ในผลงานชุดแรกเพียงชุดเดียวแล้วลาออกจากวงไป? มีเหตุผลอะไรเป็นพิเศษหรือเปล่าครับ?

เคยเห็นใน booklet ของ King Crimson ว่า Ian McDonald ชอบแนวทางร็อคเบาๆ แบบ romantic มากกว่า ดูได้จากอัลบั้มชุด McDonald & Giles ซึ่งหาก King Crimson ยึดแนว McDonald & Giles ก็คงมาไม่ถึงจุดที่ยืนอยู่ในปัจจุบัน ตอนนั้น Robert Fripp เสนอตัวว่า หากจะให้ King Crimson เล่นดนตรีเบาๆ นิ่มๆ เขาก็ขอลาออกจากวงเสียเอง แต่ Ian McDonald กับ Michael Giles ขอให้วงสานต่อแนวทางดังกล่าวต่อไปโดยทั้งสองขอเป็นผู้ลาออกไปเอง (ตอนนั้น ความเป็นสุภาพบุรุษในวงการดนตรีคงมีอยู่สูง) ต่อมา Ian McDonald ก็ไปร่วมวง Foreigner อยู่หลายปี ซึ่งก็คงเป็นแนวดนตรีที่เขาชอบครับ

ชุดนี้เป็นของวง Asia ครับ ผมเองไม่เคยดูเหมือนกัน แต่สมาชิกท่านอื่นๆอีกหลายคนน่าจะทราบดีครับ

ขอบคุณครับ ไปอ่านดูแล้ว แว๊บแรกที่เห็นมีเพลง In the Court of the Crimson King ผมดันนึกไปว่าเป็นการรวมตัวกันอีกครั้งของวง King Crimeson
ซะงั้น  ;D ทั้งๆที่แต่ก่อนก็พอจะเห็นแว็ปๆอยู่ว่าปกคล้ายกับวง Yes ปล.เท่าที่อ่านดู ในลิงค์ที่ให้มา เหมือนไม่ค่อยประทับใจกันเท่าไหร่นักใช่มั๊ยครับ ฯ

โดยส่วนตัว ผมชอบคอนเสิร์ต Fantasia มาก (ดูทีไรก็อมยิ้มทุกทีจนแฟนหาว่าผมเพี้ยน เพราะนั่งยิ้มคนเดียว) เพราะนอกจากจะยกเอาเพลงจากอัลบั้มชุดแรกของ Asia มาเล่นทั้งชุดแล้ว ยังมีโชว์เพลงจากวงเครือญาติอีกด้วย โดยบางเพลงนั้น ผมรู้สึกว่าจะเล่นได้ดีกว่าเจ้าเดิมเล่นเองเสียด้วยซ้ำ อย่างเพลง Fanfare for the Common Man นี่ นอกจาก Downes จะแกะโน้ตเดิมของ Emerson เล่นออกมาได้แทบไม่มีที่ติแล้ว ยังมีการดวลกันระหว่างคีย์บอร์ดกับกีตาร์อีกด้วย ซึ่งความพิเศษตรงนี้มิอาจหาได้จากเวอร์ชั่นดั้งเดิมของ ELP และในกรณีของเพลง In the Court of the Crimson King นั้น ผมว่า Downes ใช้คีย์บอร์ดสมัยใหม่เลียนเสียง mellotron ของ Ian McDonald (อดีตสมาชิก King Crimson) ได้อย่างยอดเยี่ยมครับ ดังนั้น จึงไม่อยากปรามาส Downes อีกต่อไปแล้วว่าแกไม่ค่อยมีฝีมือ เพียงแต่ว่าแกชอบย่ำอยู่กับ keyboard pattern ที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ของตัวเองมากไปหน่อยก็เท่านั้นเองครับ

เกี่ยวกับอัลบั้มแสดงสดชุด U.S.A. ของ KC คุณ panyarak เคยบอกว่ามีแผ่นผี (bootleg) ในยุคนั้นที่เสียงดีกว่าใช่ไหมครับ?
แล้วไม่ทราบว่าแผ่นผีที่ว่านี้ ทางวง KC ได้บันทึกเสียงไว้เอง หรือว่ามีคนอื่นอัดเสียงเอาไว้ครับ?

น่าจะเป็น soundboard recording ซึ่งในยุคนั้น King Crimson ยังไม่เต็มใจนำบันทึกการแสดงสดออกจำหน่าย เลยมีมือดีคว้าไปทำขายให้แทนครับ

จากที่ไม่ขยันฟังเท่าไหร่ ตอนนี้ฟังไปแล้ว 4 ชุด ชอบแล้ว 6 เพลง มาอัพเดทเล่นหน่อย (ว่างจัด)........+ โรคจิต  :D :D :D

มาฟังตอนนี้อีกที สำเนียงแนวเดียวกับ The Court Of The Crimson King และ In the Wake of Poseidon เลย ชอบเลยครับ แม้ว่าจะไม่ชอบท่อนร้อง Starless and bible black ที่ขึ้นเสียงสูงนัก,Book of Saturday  ทำนองเสียงเครื่องสายเพราะครับ, The Night Watch ชอบเลยครับเพลงนี้ ส่วน Lament ไม่ชอบเท่าไหร่ ฯ

ชุด The Court Of The Crimson King ผมหามาฟังใหม่ๆ ผมเห็นเพราะเพลงนี้เพลงเดียวจริงๆครับ เพลงอื่นฟังดูแล้วกลับไม่สนใจฟังเลย
จนวันหนึ่ง นานพอดูจากที่ฟังชุดนี้ ผมไปกดดูคลิปเพลง Epitaph ผมฟังดูรอบสองรอบ โอ้ นี่มันใช่เลย มันดึงความสนใจผมไปเต็มๆ ผมถึงค่อยได้ไปเสิร์ชดูว่ามันอยู่ชุดไหน เจ้ากรรมที่ไหนได้ ฮ่ะ ฮ่ะ จากนั้น ก็กลายเป็นเพลงโปรดไปเลยครับ ฯ

นั่งไล่ฟัง ทุกเพลง ทุกอัลบั้ม มาแต่ช่วงบ่าย 3 นึกหวังว่าจะเจอเพลงเจ๋งๆเพิ่ม่ขึ้นบ้าง แต่กลับผิดคาดซะงั้น
- Starless สำเนียงซินธ์ มาแนวเดียวกับสองเพลงคู่โปรด แต่กลับไม่เพอร์เฟ็ก ท่อนร้องบางท่อนไม่ชอบนัก แถมเสียงแซกโซโฟน ฟังคัดหูิยิ่งนัก เสียดายเพลงนี้จริงๆ ทำนองเสียงซินธ์สุดยอดแล้วแท้ๆ
- Walking On Air ฟังบางช่วงบางทำนอง ทำให้นึกถึงเพลงของใครบางคน ไม่แน่ใจ อาจเป็นเพลงของจอห์น เลนน่อน เพลงนี้ชอบทีเดียวครับ
- The Night Watch โดดเด่นที่เสียงกีตาร์ แต่เสียงร้องช่างไม่น่าฟังเอาซะเลย เป็นอีกเพลงที่นึกเสียดาย
- Moonchild ดีที่เพลงนี้ตัดมาทำสั้นๆแค่ 2.24 นาที ในชุด A Young Person's Guide to King Crimson
- Lady Of The Dancing Water เป็นเพลงที่นึกเสียดาย รู้สึกเกลียดเสียงฟลุตจริงๆ

ชุดนี้ดีนะครับ Kanye West ฝีมือโปรดิวซ์แกยอดมาก ทำให้งานฮิปฮอปของแกไม่เหมือนใครและไม่มีใครเหมือนจริงๆ

ออกมาแป๊บเดียว ก็ขึ้นเป็นอัลบั้มชั้นเยี่ยมของหลายสำนักเลย :D

แต่ไม่ชอบพฤติกรรมที่แกทำไว้กับ Taylor Swift เลย อ้าวชักนอกเรื่องกระทู้แล้ว

ผมไม่รู้นะครับว่าแกทำอะไร รู้แต่ว่าแกทำดนตรีฮิปฮอปได้ดีและน่าฟังเท่านั้นแหละครับ

คอนเสิร์ตในยุคก่อนนี้ ผู้เข้าชมสามารถสูบบุหรี่ (หรือบางทีก็พี้ยา) ได้ด้วยหรือครับ? ผมจำได้ว่าใน booklet ของบ็อกซ์เซ็ต The Great Deceiver นั้นมีข้อความตอนหนึ่งระบุว่าผู้ชมคอนเสิร์ต (น่าจะเป็นที่เพนซิลวาเนีย) บางคนก็เมากัญชา

ไม่น่าแปลกครับ ดูพวกเทศกาลดนตรีเวลาพวกทีวีไปถ่ายทำคนดูเวลาพักตามเต๊นท์สูบกัญชากันให้ดูบ่อยไปครับ ผมดูคอนเสริ์ตที่เมืองไทยบ้านเราสมัยก่อนนี้ก็ได้กลิ่นกัญชาประจำครับ

ในบรรดามือเบสส์ของ King Crimson ถือว่า Boz Burrell (R.I.P.) มีทักษะและความเชี่ยวชาญน้อยที่สุด เพราะตอนที่เขาเข้าร่วมกับ KC เขาเพิ่งเริ่มหัดเล่นเบสส์ ดังนั้น ฝีมือเบสส์ของเขาที่เล่นผ่านอัลบั้ม Islands จึงฟังดูค่อนข้างธรรมดา ไม่ค่อยมีลูกเล่นลีลาแพรวพราวเหมือนมือเบสส์คนอื่น ๆ เรื่องนี้จริงหรือเปล่าครับ?

ดูเหมือนเคยอ่านใน booklet ของอัลบั้ม The Young Person's Guide to King Crimson ว่า Robert Fripp เป็นคนสอนให้เขาเล่นเบสด้วยครับ

เคยได้ยินชื่อของ Rick Kemp อยู่ในทำเนียบสมาชิกเก่าของ King Crimson มานานแล้ว ไม่ทราบว่าเขาทำหน้าที่อะไรและอยู่กับวงในยุคใดครับ?

เขาเคยเล่นเบสให้กับวงอยู่สองสัปดาห์ช่วงก่อนอัดเสียงอัลบั้ม Islands ครับ

หลังจากเล่นเบสให้ King Crimson อยู่ 2 สัปดาห์ Rick Kemp พบรักและแต่งงานกับ Maddy Prior ขณะที่ทั้งคู่เป็นสมาชิกวง Steeleye Span และมีลูกสาวด้วยกัน 1 คน คือ Rose Kemp ซึ่งเคยร้องประสานเสียงในวง Steeleye Span และวงของแม่ และมีผลงานเดี่ยวแนวร็อคที่ฉีกแนวดนตรีออกไปจากแนวถนัดของพ่อแม่พอสมควร แม้ว่า Rick Kemp จะหย่ากับ Maddy Prior แล้ว แต่ทั้งคู่ก็ยังเล่นดนตรีร่วมกันใน Steeleye Span ครับ

ยังดีที่ผลงานชุดใหม่นี้เป็นสติวดิโออัลบั้ม ไม่เห็นหน้าตาของ Jakko M Jakszyk เพราะผมเคยเห็นแกทำหน้าตาเวลาที่เล่นแสดงสดกับ 21st Century Schizoid Band แล้ว บอกตามตรงว่ารู้สึกปวดอุจจาระแทนแกจริง ๆ เลยฮะ

ได้ฟังไตเติ้ลแทร็คไปแล้วหนึ่งเพลง รู้สึกว่างานจะออกไปทางอาร์ตร็อครุ่นหลังๆแบบ Porcupine Tree, Nosound หรือพวกงานค่าย Burning Shed ทั้งหลาย และจะมีกลิ่นอายแจ๊สเล็กน้อยจากเสียงแซ๊กสุดหวานของ Mel Collins ด้วย โดยเน้นขายบรรยากาศและความเนียนนุ่มมากกว่าโชว์เทคนิคฝีมือครับ ซึ่งส่วนตัวฟังแล้วก็คิดว่าเพราะดีครับ

แสดงว่าจะกลายเป็น burningshed sound ไปแล้วหรือครับ? จริงๆผมก็ไม่ได้ว่ามันไม่ดี แต่ sound แบบนี้มันดูคล้ายกันแทบทุกวงในค่ายเลย บางทีฟังบ่อยๆมันก็เบื่อเหมือนกัน

ก็ไม่แน่ครับ แต่เพลงแรกที่ปล่อยออกมามันเป็นแบบนั้นครับ

ผมไม่ค่อยถูกโฉลกกับดนตรีของ King Crimson ในยุคที่สามซึ่งมี เอเดรียน เบลิว ร้องนำเอาเสียเลย แต่ก็ยังพอรับได้ ดังนั้น ผมจึงไม่อยากติดตามผลงานหลังจากนี้อีกต่อไปแล้ว แต่เคยซื้อซีดีผลงานแสดงสดชุด B' Boom มาฟัง ก็รู้สึกว่าเล่นได้มันส์ดีครับ

แผ่นการแสดงสดในยุคที่มี boz burrell ร้องนำ นอกจากชุด earthbound มีชุดใดน่าสนใจบ้างครับ

ซีดีบันทึกการแสดงสดชุดนี้น่าจะใกล้เคียง เพราะมีไลน์อัพยุค Islands และ Earthbound เล่นอยู่ และคุณภาพเสียงก็ไม่ต่างจาก Earthbound เท่าไรครับ

แค่นี้ก็หากินได้ไม่รู้จักหมดแล้วครับ แต่แฟน King Crimson คงต้องตามซื้อกันจนเหนื่อย (กระเป๋า) ทั้งผลงานเก่าและใหม่

ปีนี้ วงต่างๆ เขาหากินกับ boxset กันเป็นล่ำเป็นสันเป็นว่าเล่นเลยครับ

ช่วงหลังจาก period นี้ (2000-2003) ก็เป็น Line Up 4 คน คือ Robert Fripp / Adrian belew / Trey Gunn / Pat Mastelotto มีผลงานคือชุด The ConstruKction of Light และชุด The Power to Believe
  มีความพยายามรื้อฟื้น Double Trio อีกครั้ง ช่วงหลังจากนั้น (2007-2008) Fripp, Belew, Levin, Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison แต่ไม่มีผลงาน Studio Album ออกมา เป็นเพียงการออกทัวร์ไม่กี่ครั้ง
  Robert Fripp น่าจะ Retire จากวงการดนตรีแล้ว จากการให้สัมภาษณ์ในปี 2012 และอนุญาตให้สมาชิกที่เหลือใช้ชื่อ Krimson Projekct ได้ ก็มีการออกทัวร์ต่อเนื่อง และไม่มีผลงาน Studio Album ออกมา
  สมาชิกล่าสุดของ Krimson Projekct  ก็ยึดแนว Double Trio ยุครุ่งเรือง ประกอบด้วยสมาชิกใหม่ 3 คน คือ Julie Slick (bass) , Tobias Ralph (drums) และ Markus Reuter (on touch-style guitars) ร่วมกับสมาชิกเดิมคือ Adrian Belew / Tony Levin / Pat Mastelotto  เล่นเพลงจาก King Crimson ยุคหลังปี 1981

จากการไปดู Crimson Projekct เล่นที่ Citta Club เมื่อเร็วๆนี้  ก็ประทับใจในระดับหนึ่ง แต่เมื่อฟังเปรียบเทียบกับผลงานในช่วง Double trio  ในนามวง King Crimson ยุค1991-1998 แล้ว ฝีมือยุคหลังสู้ไม่ได้ครับ ทั้งที่เล่นเพลงเดียวกัน ต้องอธิบายว่า ฝีมือของ Robert Fripp และ  Bill Bruford ไม่ธรรมดาครับ ยากจะหาใครมาเทียบได้ รวมทั้ง Trey Gunn อีกคน  โดยรวมก็ทิ้งกันขาดครับ

+ 1 ครับ ไลน์อัพนี้สุดยอดมาก ถ้าได้ดูดีวีดี Deja Vroom แบบ 5.1 จะได้ยินเสียงเครื่องดนตรีแต่ละคนแยกกันคนละลำโพงเลยครับ

ฟังเพลงเหล่านี้แล้ว มีความสุขครับ เสียดายที่ไม่ได้นั่งดูหน้าเวทีเท่านั้นเอง

เกี่ยวกับการริเริ่มวงที่มีสมาชิก 6 คน หรือ double trio ในช่วงปี 1991 นั้นก็ต้องยกความดีความชอบให้ Robert Fripp  เพราะทำให้วงการคึกคักขึ้นมาทีเดียว เพราะสมาชิกแต่ละคนก็ไม่ธรรมดา เพราะถ้าฟอร์มทีม 4 คนแบบเดิม ก็ไม่น่าจะรุ่งกว่าเดิม
   ตามความคิดผม ทัวร์ Union Tour ของวง Yes น่าจะมีส่วนไม่มากก็น้อย Bill Bruford ก็ไปทัวร์กับวง Yes ด้วย มีมือกลองสองคนทัวร์ด้วยกัน คือ Bill Bruford และ Alan White มีช่วงดวลกลองกันด้วยในทัวร์ครั้งนี้  ช่วงเวลาก็ใกล้เคียงกัน

King Crimson อัลบั้มคู่ชุด Live at the Fillmore (November - December 1969) มีแผ่นเสียงออกวางจำหน่ายแล้ว แต่รูปที่นำมาให้ดูเป็นแค่การแสดงที่ Fillmore East เมื่อเดือนพ.ย. 1969 เท่านั้น ไม่ทราบมีใครเคยฟังชุดนี้แล้วบ้างครับ (เห็นเขาว่าบันทึกเสียงใช้ได้)?

เห็นด้วยหรือไม่ครับ

ผมว่าผลงานแต่ละชุดของวงนี้ แล้วแต่มุมมองของคนฟังจริง ๆ ครับ มีทั้งที่ชอบและไม่ชอบ แต่ที่แน่ ๆ คือเป็นวงผู้นำและบุกเบิกความเป็น progressive rock ในยุคนั้นโดยแท้ โดยนำเอาดนตรีร็อค แจ๊ส คลาสสิก และ experimental มาเล่นผสมผสานเป็นดนตรีร็อคแนวใหม่ที่แฟนร็อคในยุคนั้นได้ยินครั้งแรกเป็นต้องตะลึงหรืออ้าปากค้าง ถ้าไม่ชอบก็คงจะเกลียดวงนี้ไปเลย และเป็นวงที่มีอิทธิพลต่อวงร่วมสมัยและวงรุ่นหลังอีกหลายวง มี family tree แตกขยายกิ่งก้านสาขาไพศาล อดีตสมาชิกวงนี้พอออกจากวงนี้แล้วก็ได้ไปอยู่กับวงอื่นชื่อเสียงโด่งดังมากมาย ราวกับว่าจบจากสถาบัน KC แล้วมีใบปริญญาการันตีฝีมือยังไงยังงั้น

Live Album ชุดใหม่ ชอบการให้สีปกในยุคหลังนี้ครับ

แมททีเรียลของนาย Robert Fripp เอ๊ย... พูดผิด... ของ คิง คริมสัน เนี่ย ขุดมาหากินได้ไม่ยอมหมดจริง ๆ :D

ผมมาเริ่มตั้งใจฟัง และศึกษางานของ King crimson ครับ น่าจะเมื่อ 2-3 ปีก่อน
เริ่มจาก live radical action 2015 in Japan.

สิ่งที่น่าสนใจในตอนแรกคือ การที่วงต้องใช้กลองชุดถึง 3 เซ็ต มันยังไง?
แต่สิ่งที่ได้ฟัง ได้เห็น คือ รวมๆ แล้วเพลงถูกเล่นให้ออกมาฟังดูง่ายขึ้น (สำหรับผมนะครับ)
เพราะเมื่อก่อนแต่ฟัง 1-2 ชุดแรก ก็ไม่ได้ฟังต่อแล้ว

ผมว่า (ทัวร์) ไลน์อัพปัจจุบัน 2014-present เล่นเพลงค่อนข้างดี และปราณีต
Jakko Jakszyk (vocal/guitar) ร้องเพลงคลาสสิคในยุคแรก (Lake, Wetton, R.I.P.)ได้ดี
แต่ไม่เหมาะกับเพลงยุค Adrian Belew เลย

...ยังติดตามอยู่ครับ ตราบใดที่ปู่ Fripp ยังฟิตอยู่
