If there is one group that embodies both the best and the worst aspects of progressive rock (from the standpoints of both supporters and detractors), it is King Crimson. During its first five years of existence from 1969 through 1974, in a variety of different lineups, this band led by guitar/Mellotron virtuoso Robert Fripp broke lots of new ground in prog rock, stretching both the language and structure of the music into realms of jazz and classical. ผมว่าผลงานแต่ละชุดของวงนี้ แล้วแต่มุมมองของคนฟังจริง ๆ ครับ มีทั้งที่ชอบและไม่ชอบ แต่ที่แน่ ๆ คือเป็นวงผู้นำและบุกเบิกความเป็น progressive rock ในยุคนั้นโดยแท้ โดยนำเอาดนตรีร็อค แจ๊ส คลาสสิก และ experimental มาเล่นผสมผสานเป็นดนตรีร็อคแนวใหม่ที่แฟนร็อคในยุคนั้นได้ยินครั้งแรกเป็นต้องตะลึงหรืออ้าปากค้าง ถ้าไม่ชอบก็คงจะเกลียดวงนี้ไปเลย และเป็นวงที่มีอิทธิพลต่อวงร่วมสมัยและวงรุ่นหลังอีกหลายวง มี family tree แตกขยายกิ่งก้านสาขาไพศาล อดีตสมาชิกวงนี้พอออกจากวงนี้แล้วก็ได้ไปอยู่กับวงอื่นชื่อเสียงโด่งดังมากมาย ราวกับว่าจบจากสถาบัน KC แล้วมีใบปริญญาการันตีฝีมือยังไงยังงั้น
